Against the Tide: Empowering Marginalised Voices through Socio-Culture

Dimitra Ermidou, Vice President of the Coordinating Group of the Culture for Change Network, represented the Network at the annual conference of ENCC (European Network of Cultural Centres), held on 17-19 September 2025 in Kotor, Montenegro, in collaboration with Kulturni Centar Nikola Đurković.
The conference titled Against the Tide: Empowering Marginalised Voices through Socio-Culturefocused on inclusion and inclusion through culture, with particular emphasis on new generations and the role of the cultural sector in advocacy, activism and the defence of democratic values in Europe. Through panel discussions, workshops and thematic presentations, practices that enhance the participation of young people and marginalized communities have been highlighted, as well as new ways of cross-sectoral cooperation that provide inspiration and workable solutions for the future.
The presence of Culture for Change at the conference had three main objectives: to inform about the state of cultural centres in Europe and their contemporary practices, to network with cultural professionals from different countries and fields, and to strengthen the Network's presence in the European cultural scene.
Dimitra Ermidou's participation highlighted the active role of Culture for Change in the field of empowerment through culture and strengthened the Network's voice in European debates on inclusion, participation and democratic expression.
