River//Cities, the international platform that since 2008 unites institutions, artists, universities, environmental organizations and municipalities around the cultural and social dimensions of coastal and riparian areas, held its pan-European meeting in Athens this year. The meeting took place on Tuesday 13 May in the BIOS space, in the context of redefining the Network's mission and strengthening its presence in European programs.
Culture for Change was represented by George Styles, a member of the Coordinating Group, who participated in the contact meeting with representatives of organizations from Sweden, Austria, the Netherlands, Scotland, Poland and Greece, and discussed possibilities for cooperation on future projects.
River//Cities focuses on urban sustainability and environmental education through art, social innovation and cultural action. The network creates synergies between cities and cultural organizations that wish to link their local identity to the marine or riparian landscape, highlighting the coasts as dynamic cultural ecosystems.
The Athens meeting was organized with the support of the European Creative Hubs Network and the participation of organizations such as Intercult (Sweden), ARTIT (Greece), Urban Culture Institute (Poland), Fablevision (Scotland), Dear Hunter (Netherlands), Wiener Bildungsakademie (Austria) and Turning the Tide program.
